If you are crazy about orchids, you have come to the right place and you better take off your sandals because you’re standing on holy ground when it comes to Orchids care tips. Caring for orchids is actually an ancient custom, as people have been growing and harvesting orchids for hundreds of years. With so many different species of orchids growing in so many different climates, the different types of care are too numerous to mention. However, there are a number of general care tips and techniques that will hold true for most of the orchid species that are commonly grown.

Although these flowers are naturally wild plants and they grow in numbers in one area, growing orchids, as growing any plant successfully, is a task that can be easy but must be approached with care. Beginning orchid growers will usually learn that they can keep their plant thriving and happy and alive and even growing, but they have the predicament getting it to bloom itself well or none at all. That’s why, for those who are tyros, they can try to learn how to grow and take care of orchids by choosing the correct type first. For beginners, they can go for Cymbidium, Denrobiums, Phalaenopsis and the Vanda. Of the four kinds of orchids shown here, the third one or Phlaenopsis can be very easy to grow and care for because in the Philippines, particularly in Davao, they can grow wildly without human intervention. But to make them grow the way you want, you can learn how to do some proper caring tips right in your own home with the help of an appropriate Orchid care book guide.

But the only concern is, where can you search for the right e-book guide? Well, you can go for the traditional leg and drive approach or you can go to the Internet and find a site that offers a book guide for orchid lovers.

What the Economic Situation Means For You and Your Money

The Dow Jones closed today below 7,000, which is the lowest point it has been at in twelve years. Every day the news about our economic situation seems more and more grim, leaving many to wonder if there is anything that can be done. Yet, more than ever, we must take action to secure our own stable financial future.

Before anything else, everyone needs to stop getting caught up in the bad news. We need to accept that we are in a bad situation and start taking the necessary steps to recover. The first step to a secure financial future is to act. We must take our destiny into our own hands.

The method of putting money away into investments, savings accounts, and pension plans has become obsolete. Not that we should not have confidence in our financial system. The success of the economic system is mainly based on how confident we are in it. Rather, it can no longer be our only method of securing a retirement.

Modern Portfolio Theory stresses diversity as a method to weather difficult times and minimize risk. Yet, that has not saved us from our current economic skid. We can no longer rely on account or fund managers to take care of our money. We need to understand our own financial situations and take responsibility for them.

We must create alternate sources of income. This does not always mean we need a second job. We need to stop thinking that way we’ve always done that we need a good education to get a good job to be able to retire. A person with such an old mentality will ultimately be left with nothing to retire on. It is not about working harder, but smarter.

Some of the things we can look into are real estate investments, Internet jobs, and new technologies. Though this may seem risky, at this point in the economy, what isn’t a risk? Not that we should be reckless with our money. If we do our homework, there can be many profitable ventures for us.

An individual with property that generates $500 in positive cash flow can greatly improve his or her financial situation? Additionally, the individual would build equity while paying down the mortgage.

Internet businesses may seem like scams, but if an individual were to be able to make just 100 sales of a product that pays $40 up front and $40 in residual income, he or she would be able to make $4000/mo. This kind of money would easily replace the income of many individuals with virtually no additional work.

New technologies such as “green” technologies are not only yielding more jobs, but more profitable ones. A wind turbine technician can earn as much as $50/hr with proper training. This may be just another job, but it is one that will be in high demand for years to come.

Ultimately, the important thing is to stop being afraid and make a decision to act. We can no longer wait for the government or whoever else to make changes for us. We must take actions to change our own lives as this will in turn, help change the economy as a whole.

You Need More Than a Play Pen to Child-proof Your House

Baby proofing your household is a key consideration whether you’re expecting a baby or already have them around the house. Some of the most overlooked threats to your kid’s ability to be safe are found in the most unexpected of places – your home.  More than any other threat, it is more likely for a child between the ages of 1 and 4 to be killed by drowning, poisoning, fire, falling, or choking in their own house. Approximately 2.5 million children a year are injured or killed by dangers found right in their own household.  You can’t just put your child in an approved playpen, such as a Little Playzone by Friendly Toys, and call it a day. Taking steps to baby proof your home is extremely important.

Step 1: Evaluate Your Area
Try to imagine that you are crawling or toddling. Picture your viewpoint from your kid’s perspective. Which things would you try to reach?  What would tempt you?  What could you fall on?  What would you pull for? Look for things that your child might put in their mouths – anything they could choke on or poison them. Either remove those things, secure them, or put them out of harm’s way. This is an important step.

Step 2: Deal With Your Electrical Outlets
Take stock of your home’s electrical outlets. Are they in use? Can they be completely covered up? Plastic plug coverings are not recommended – they are very tempting for a baby to remove. As soon as your baby can remove them, they’ll go right into your their mouth – a serious choking hazard.  Instead, replace the entire outlet cover.  If you need access to that outlet, use the kind that have a sliding safety latch. Also, secure any extension cords that are connected together with electrical tape.

Step 3: Survey Your Furniture Situation
When your baby begins to crawl, the first thing they’ll do is grab onto whatever they can, pulling up on furniture or anything around them.  While a proper playpen is a good idea, like a Friendly Toys Little Playzone, it is a good idea to plan for every eventuality – they will want to explore as much of your house as you’ll allow. Secure any furniture that moves, keep televisions away from the edge so they can’t fall (at least 5,000 kids a year go to the hospital because of fallen TVs or furniture.)

Step 4: Set Up a Play Zone
It is a good idea to create a safe room for a newborn to play in by using safety gates. Keeping your infant in a specific room or just keeping them away from specific rooms (like the bathroom or the kitchen) is easy with safety gates. To block the top of a staircase with a safety gate, make sure that you can screw it into the wall instead of just using pressure. You can also place your baby into a play pen or even a Little Playzone by Friendly Toys, for extra security, knowing that they won’t go far.

Considering the risks involved, you can never be too safe when child-proofing your house. Evaluate your area, cover your outlets, assess your heavy furniture, and create a safe play zone.  You’ll be well on your way to creating safe, nurturing environment for your newborn .

Obtaining Death Records In Genealogy

Social Security Death Index

When creating a genealogy, death records can be one of your biggest assets. Along with birth records and marriage records, death records can provide extremely valuable information about an individual ancestor as well as his family. When creating a family tree, designs and included information may vary from tree to tree. However, a genealogy chart will always account for births, deaths and marriages. It is important to make sure that these dates and locations are accurate.

Modern death records for the United States can be located through the Social Security Death Index. This Index is fully searchable online at no charge. From the Social Security Death Index you can find the birth date, Social Security Number and state of issue, death date and last residence of your past family member.

To search the Social Security Death Index, simply input as much information as you have. It is possible to search only by last name, thereby finding the death records of everyone who shares a particular surname. This can be useful in starting research on a possible ancestor about whom you know very little or finding a whole new branch of your history.

If you are seeking death records from another country or pre-1960s United States death records, you will have to go through alternative sources. If you know the town and approximate year in which your ancestor died, try contacting that town’s offices. You may be able to get information on how to proceed. Also try contacting genealogical societies both locally and online. Some societies publish their own databases of death records and other vital records. These sources are generally based on the members’ research and may not be 100% accurate, so use caution and document your sources carefully.

The death records of women can be difficult to track down because during certain periods of time and in different locations, women were considered property. They belonged to husbands and fathers, and some had no documented evidence of significant events in her life. The same problem may arise with a male ancestor, but checking prison records, probate, military or school records might turn up the appropriate information on date of death.

Guesswork often comes with making a family chart because death records can be difficult to track down. Persecuted people often had no death records, such as Jews or slaves, but other information may enable you to make reasonable estimates of dates and locations. Fill in the blanks and move on. You may discover the missing records later.

Pointers To Achieve Sustainable Corporate Citizenship

local community help

Schools realize that encouraging kids to play a positive and active part in the community is considered good citizenship and adults would do well to remind themselves that it is just as important for them to be good role models. Teach them that even though they are just beginning their careers, everything they do has the potential to impact a community, both negatively and positively. One major key to achieving sustainable performance and good corporate citizenship is to be a good business role model that includes integrity of the highest standards, legal conformance, appropriate administration practices and management systems.

After September 11, all big companies are expected to practice good citizenship on a corporate level or corporate philanthropy. Shortly thereafter, companies were asked to produce both social and environmental reports, but only about 1/4 of them have even attempted to do so and even those fell short of the required standards in many cases. There are four areas that are used to track a company’s citizenship rating and they include Operational Transparency, The Workplace, Community Help and Engagement and Sustainability.

Operational Transparency is a key area that is watched. It pertains to gaining the public’s trust by being more open about the different processes, which include both successes and setbacks. This information is obtained by getting feedback from its members. Another key area of corporate citizenship is Community Engagement, which basically means how much a company encourages its employees to participate by donating and volunteering both resources and time dealing with different areas of the community development.

As you can see, this type of sustainability and citizenship goes beyond the normal scope of finances, as that only really tells one side of the story. Corporate giving includes a strong sense of responsibility to the community and that in turn leads to a higher rated performance.

The next key area is the Workplace, which means creating environments that are conducive to diversity, networking, education and good environmental choices and practices. One move in the right direction is diversity in leadership courses offered to all employees no matter what their position is within the company. And, finally the last key element of corporate citizenship is Sustainability, which essentially means good environmental practices. Usually this means that not only has the company committed to using internal recycling, but the employees pledge to make positive environmental changes in both their home and work lives within their local community.
