Industry reports show the Omron has sold more of the Omron Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-780 than any other model ever produced. You will recall that last year I did a review on this very monitor; and in that review I said that this unit was one of my all time favorite BP monitors priced under $100, but not one of the best values. Well, things are considerably different now; and the HEM-780 is my definite choice for the award of ‘Overall Best Value’ and ‘Bed Pans to the Sky’ recipient as the best monitor in its price range.

What changed? You might ask. The last time I reviewed this BP monitor, it was selling for $99.99 and just made the cut for being a sub $100 monitor. In last year’s review, I told you that I really liked the monitor; but that its price precluded it as a best value. Maybe Omron saw the review; because the price has tumbled considerably since then. With many e-tailers offering this monitor for $65 to $80 depending on the package, the decision to make this my choice for the Best Value was a no brainer.

Some of you might have missed last year’s review on the Omron Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-780, so I thought I would cover some of the things we discovered about this unit. I won’t be providing in depth details of the units features and capabilities, of this excellent monitor. I will simply tell you which ones you really need to know about and consider.

First and most importantly about this monitor, is the HEM-780′s ability to detect Morning Hypertension. The potential importance of this feature cannot be adequately described. Morning Hypertension, or an elevated morning blood pressure level, is one of the leading indicators and warning signs of potential stroke or heart attack. Being aware if you suffer from this condition could be play a major factor in staving off a heart attack or stroke. I have talked about this technology before; however, I can never stress enough how valuable it can be.

Another feature that I really like about the Omron HEM-780 home blood pressure monitor is the comfit cuff; it is huge. The large adjustable cuff means that almost any person in your home will be able to use it. Being a big guy myself, I really appreciate the inclusion of a larger cuff. Also, I like the fact the cuff is very stiff, and not one of those plushy, mushy type things. Those baby soft cuffs feel nice; but they do not provide nearly as accurate results as the stiffer ones.

This monitor is like a tank in its quality construction, and will last a long time. The LED Display is huge, and you can literally see it from more than half a room away! About the only thing I could complain about with this model is the tube length from the cuff to the monitor itself. I wish it was just a tad bit longer.

Nonetheless, home blood pressure monitors in this price range don’t get any better than this one. It is accurate, dependable and extremely well made. Therefore, all other sub $100 priced monitors should bow before their new monarch the Omron Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-780 .
