The top digit is the systolic figure which records the pressure that your blood is exerted when the heart is beating and pushing the blood around your body. The bottom number of the reading, called the diastolic pressure, is the measure of your blood pressure when the heart is resting between the beats. Be careful not to confuse these readings and understandings up with your heart pulse rate which is the speed that your heart actually beats and not the pressure of the blood moving around.

A usual blood pressure reading could be a reading with a systolic reading somewhere between 90 and 130 and a diastolic pressure reading of between 60 and 80. If you have a recording with a top digit below 90, and a bottom reading of under 60 then you are classed as having a low blood pressure reading.
